A Segway tour

Last Monday was a fun day! We took an almost three hour tour of historic Pensacola by Segway! I was a bit wobbly when I first got started and I nearly wrecked once when my Segway tried to hop a curb but it was so much fun! I’d do it again! If you’re ever near Pensacola, look up Emerald Coast Tours. They have lots to offer in addition to the Segway tours.

For those of you who aren’t familiar with a Segway, it is a two-wheeled, self-balancing personal transportation device invented in 2001. Standing on the Segway, it is operated by pressure from your feet. Leaning forward moves the device forward; leaning backward reverses, or stops, the device. Tilting the handlebars left or right, moves the Segway in those directions.

Toward the end of the tour, we all took just a few steps beyond normal when our guide had us do what he called a Segway “sobriety” test. We did a slalom run through a series of poles outside of an Irish pub. It was hilarious!

My first Segway tour was in Pittsburgh. Here, Jen and I are at Point State Park.
